Faith and Fear

“Lord, save us! We are lost” (Mt 8:23-27), said the disciples.

The disciples were with Jesus long enough to know him well.

For three years they heard him preaching and witnessed him working mighty miracles.

Yet, now when they saw the raging sea and the roaring storm, they cried, “Lord, save us.”

They were fishermen: weather-wise and sturdy! Yet, they were frightened.

It is easy to be bold when there is no peril.

But, when evils assail us, it is hard and commendable not to be moved.

All our theology and Christology fly along with the tempest of troubles!

In the disciples’ cry we can notice belief and unbelief.

It is faith that called “Master”.

It is unbelief that said, “We are lost” (Mt 8:25).

However, the ARK of REFUGE they sought was right: JESUS!

The holiest saint is only an imperfect composition of faith and fear!
